Nicola Macdonald

Profession:
Acupuncturist

Nationality:
Australian

Age:
45 years old

Best Professional Experience:
I had a gentleman whose back had been broken in the Gulf War and he was in severe pain. He was on a lot of pain killers. So I booked him in for a course of acupuncture, and by the 14th day of our cruise his back pain had completely disappeared. He said that acupuncture is like love, its effects just can’t be measured!

Most Memorable Day Off:
Rio De Janeiro. We were there for Carnivale and got free tickets for the Samba Drome, where the processions and competitions take place. It was wild and the costumes were gorgeous.

Favorite Port:
I love them all. I have worked on ships for 5 years – so I have seen a lot of ports!

How has working at sea changed you?
I am doing the two things I love the most: travel and acupuncture. I think allowing yourself to live a lifestyle that suits you is empowering and helps you to grow both emotionally and professionally. It is a life changing experience.

Message for someone considering life at sea with Steiner.
It’s hard work, but if you love your chosen profession and love to travel, you will love working at sea!
